Lifestyles have changed dramatically over the past 20 years.

People are busier, but their lives are more sedentary and there is a growing incidence of obesity.

However, most of us aspire to living longer and more healthily and, as a result, consumers are increasingly choosing products that are more natural, lower in sugar, nutritional and fortifying.

This trend will continue to drive businesses such as ours to deliver better and healthier options, providing consumers with more choice and easy access to the information they need to make decisions about ingredients and nutrition.

In recent years we have rebalanced our portfolio by modifying our existing products and developing new ones. Examples of the initiatives we have taken include:

Sugar

We have introduced a wide range of diet, no added sugar (NAS) and low sugar drinks for consumers who wish to limit their sugar intake - 54% of the carbonated drinks we sell now contain no added sugar.

We have also reformulated some of our brands to reduce their sugar content without compromising their taste (and in some cases without the need for artificial sweeteners). Examples include Fruit Shoot, J2O, R Whites Lemonade and Tango.

Flavourings

We have removed artificial flavourings from Tango and Robinsons Fruit Squash, Fruit and Barley, and Fruit Shoot. We are in the process of removing them from High Juice and Barley Water.

Preservatives

Preservatives are necessary to ensure the quality and maintain the shelf life of some of our products, which otherwise would need to be kept refrigerated.

When developing new products, we always consider producing preservative-free options, when there is consumer need.

We have made a major investment in our production processes to achieve this, including the installation of a new aseptic line at our Rugby factory.

A number of the drinks we produce are preservative free, including:

  • The Really Wild Drinks Company - a range of natural juices for schools (in-pack pasteurised)
  • Robinsons 100% Fruit Juice (aseptically produced)
  • Pepsi Raw (in-pack pasteurised)
  • Gatorade (aseptically produced)
  • Lime Grove (in-pack pasteurised)
  • Purdeys (in-pack pasteurised)
  • Robinsons Be Natural (aseptically produced)
  • V Water (aseptically produced)
