Every tool has a designated place
At Britvic, our factories are implementing the 5S system to ensure that our workplace is safe and well organised, and that processes are correctly followed and tested.
The aim of 5S is to create a structured, organised and efficient working environment where every tool, file or piece of equipment has a designated place.
The intention is that we should be able to find everything we need in 20 seconds - resulting in zero lost time and more efficient operations.
What 5S stands for
Sort - Sort through all tools and materials and use only what is needed.
Set locations and limits - Arrange tools and equipment in an efficient way where they are needed, (a place for everything and everything in its place).
Shine and visually sweep - Cleanliness and returning items to their place becomes part of the daily routine - not an occasional activity done when things get messy again.
Standardise - Operate in a consistent and standardised way so everyone knows their responsibilities.
Sustain - Maintain the focus on the new way of operating and don't fall back into the old way of working.
